Top 50 Tanzania Brand winners revealed

Winners of the Top 50 Tanzania Brands were finally revealed during the prestigious corporate event which took place last Friday at Mlimani City Conference hall.

The Top 50 Tanzania Brands is the first of its kind in the country which aims to instill pride and appreciation of  products and goods produced in the country, as well as increase consumption among Tanzanians.

The campaign which was officiated by the Vice President Samia  Hassan Suluhu is an initiative of Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) and Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS).

Prior to the awarding ceremony Hon.  Suluhu commended both TPSF and TBS on the success of the campaign in promoting Local Brands.

She clearly called upon the Government, Private Sector and Consumers to work together to ensure the growth of the country’s Economy.

According to her, trade deficit has increased to $7.7 billion in 2015 from $7.07 billion recorded in 2014, “this is a clear indication something needs to be done.”

On his part TPSF Executive Director Mr. Godfrey Simbeye urged Tanzanians to buy local made products as a way of promoting local made products and spurring economic growth.

“This event must not end up with awards, but must act as a way of encouraging production of quality goods to meet both local and international market,” said Mr Simbeye.

Among the winners for Tanzania Top 50 Brands are Kilimanjaro lager, Konyagi, Superdoll, Twiga Cement, Azam Embe, Azania wheat flower, Sundrop cooking oil, whitedent, Grand Malt but to mention a few.

The event also saw acknowledgement of small-scale, up and coming entrepreneurs who were also awarded for the efforts.

Among the winners from this category were Alaska Rice,  Asali ya Bibi (Grandmother’s Honey), Chocolate Mama.

Other winners which stood out were Nelwa’s Delight an ice cream business founded by Mercy Kitomari and  featured in CNN’s African Start-Up program,  Nuya’s Essence also was extended the honor where the owner Miss Hellen Dausen was recently recognized as one of “Africa’s Most Promising Entrepreneurs (Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30 For 2016)”.
