EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY- COMMUNICATIONS, PUBLIC RELATION (PR) AND MEDIA MANAGER

1.0 Introduction

Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) is an apex private sector organization, formally incorporated under the Companies Act (Cap 212) on 4th November 1998. As a focal private sector organization in Tanzania, mandated to promote private sector development and ensure effective engagement with the private and public sector. TPSF has been at the forefront in championing social-economic transformation and advocating for reforms to enhance Tanzania’s business environment and investment climate.

2.0 Main Duties and Responsibility

Communications, PR and Media Manager (CPM) is responsible for the development and implementation of TPSF communication strategy. He/she will develop strategic and effective communications plan for TPSF, directly managing communications activities that promote, enhance and protect the organization’s reputation. CPM Manager is responsible for development, integration, and implementation of a broad range of public affairs activities relative to the strategic direction and positioning of the organization and its leadership. This individual will need to build and nurture relationships with the  public through various medias. The goal is to advance the organization's position with relevant stakeholders, as well as to drive broader profile for the organization.

3.0 Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain current and lead the development of new communications strategies, plans and protocols to advance TPSF’s brand identity;
  • Provide leadership, expertise and reporting in all areas of communications (internal and external) for and in collaboration with Management, Board of Directors and working groups;
  • Cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including the media and key influencers
  • Identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization. Work with the leadership team and staff to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them;
  • Oversee the development of all print and digital communications including the annual directory, annual reports, marketing collateral materials and electronic communications including TPSF’s website social media pages;
  • Serve as a spokesperson and lead point person on media interactions;
  • Exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities, and prepare talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting material as needed;
  • Actively engage, cultivate and manage press relationships to ensure coverage surrounding TPSF priorities, special events, and other projects;
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the communications function including budgeting, planning and staff development;
  • Develop communications products and services that facilitate member engagement, retention and recruitment;
  • Maintain current and establish new measurement metrics and benchmarks for communications and external relations to improve visibility on progress and return of value to members;
  • Manage a communications team to support the development and execution of the communications strategy;
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality;
  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis;
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and conduct annual performance appraisals.

4.0 Essential Qualifications

A suitable candidate should hold following qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field is required, an advanced degree is preferred;
  • 10 years of experience, at least 5 years in management role;
  • Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building and nurturing relationships with key stakeholders, top tier reporters and editors, and in successfully positioning subject matter with the media to achieve high impact placements;
  • Extensive successful writing and editing experience (externally focused) with a variety of print and online communications media;
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communication, media relations, and marketing program to advance an organization's mission and goals;
  • Creative and thoughtful on how new media technologies can be utilized;
  • Extensive experience in planning, writing, editing, and production of newsletters, press releases, annual reports, marketing literature, social media and other print publications and directories;
  • Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output;
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching a team of communications specialists;
  • Energetic, self-reliant, good problem solver, results-oriented;
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management;
  • Articulate and persuasive communicator, written and oral.
